Phillips Lecture Series

Postponed: Professor Laure Saint-Raymond's Phillips Lecture, originally March 9-11, 2025, is being rescheduled for the fall. She was a 2014 ICM speaker for her pioneering work on the hydrodynamic limit of Boltzmann's equation.

Jeff Schenker named 2025 AMS Fellow

Professor Jeff Schenker has been named a 2025 American Mathematical Society Fellow for his research into mathematical physics and disorder effects in quantum systems.

Leo Abbrescia 2025 NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship

Leo Abbrescia wins 2025 NSF Postdoctoral fellowship to study shock formation in 3D relativistic compressible fluids. Leo anticipates completing his PhD under Willie Wong's supervision and heading to Vanderbilt University in fall 2025.

Joseph Melby Awarded CASE Fellowship

MSU MTH Graduate student Joseph Melby has been selected as one of two graduate students nationally to be funded by the American Mathematical Society to attend the Catalyzing Advocacy in Science and Engineering (CASE) workshop in Washington DC this March. Participants learn the nitty-gritty details of the Congressional procedures that produce science policy and funding.

MSU Putnam Competition Team In Top 25

MSU's team placed in the top 25 in the highly competitive Putnam Competition. This exam has top undergraduates solve challenging problems and attracts entrants from over 500 universities in the US and Canada. Advanced track to UCLA

Two 2025 Advanced track graduates, Mohit Bansil and Theodore Faust, have received NSF Graduate Research Fellowships. Both Mohit, who worked with Prof. Jun Kitagawa, and Theo, who worked with Prof. Mark Iwen, will go to UCLA for their graduate studies.
